Dust control in sandblasting

Wet, enclosed or extracted blasting can reduce dust; “dust-free” is not an absolute description.

How dust is reduced

Dust can be reduced by wetting, wet abrasive blasting, extraction, enclosure or media-recovery systems. OSHA notes that an airborne-dust hazard can remain after water from wet blasting evaporates.

Capturing the waste

The mixture of water, abrasive and removed coating is waste that must be captured. Media can be recycled only in a system designed for it and with contamination taken into account. Proper protection also includes exposure assessment or monitoring and appropriate PPE.
