How hydrodemolition works

What hydrodemolition can actually do, when it is appropriate and how its scope is specified.

How the method works

Hydrodemolition removes concrete with high- or ultra-high-pressure water. ICRI defines it as a method for concrete removal and surface preparation, typically at pressures above 70 MPa (700 bar). Pressure alone does not determine the result: flow, nozzle, stand-off distance, machine travel and concrete condition also matter.

The result must be verified

The method can selectively expose and clean reinforcement and provide a substrate for repair. It does not automatically guarantee zero damage to reinforcement or the substrate. The removal depth should be set through investigation and a trial area, with water, slurry and debris collection included in the project plan.
