How heat exchangers are cleaned

A correctly selected cleaning method can restore flow and heat transfer without damaging the tubes.

Why an exchanger is cleaned

Scale, corrosion, biological growth or process residues can restrict flow and heat transfer. The deposit, exchanger material and geometry must be identified first; water jetting is one mechanical method, not automatically the only or best choice.

A safe procedure

The equipment is isolated and depressurised. Pressure, flow, nozzle and guide device are selected for the tube diameter, wall thickness and material to avoid damage. The result and, where required, tightness are checked afterwards; cleaning without dismantling depends on access and construction.
