When to use water jetting instead of sandblasting

The choice between water and abrasive blasting follows the required finish, waste stream and site conditions.

When water jetting is appropriate

Water jetting is considered when the aim is to remove coating or contamination without adding abrasive, reduce dry dust or selectively remove concrete. On steel, the existing profile is retained, flash rust must be considered and wastewater must be captured.

When abrasive blasting is appropriate

Abrasive blasting is considered when the specification requires an Sa grade and a new anchor profile for coating. It also creates dust, spent media and hazards associated with the abrasive or old coating. The specification, substrate assessment and a trial area confirm the right choice; cost cannot be stated generically without the work scope.
